The consultation launched by the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (DLUHC) on the introduction of the new Social Tenant Access to Information Requirements (STAIRs) has now closed.
This consultation sought views on the content of a policy statement outlining the requirements that Registered Providers of social housing (RPs) will be required to meet under the STAIRs. As set out in our previous article on this consultation, STAIRs seeks to encourage RPs to publish data about the management of their properties and enable tenants to request said data about their homes.
The consultation also sought views on a proposed Direction from the Secretary of State for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities to the Regulator of Social Housing (the Regulator), directing the Regulator to comply with the policy statement for STAIRs.
What happens next?
Following the end of this consultation, the DLUHC will now consider consultation responses received and likely publish them on the DLUCH website. The responses will then be used to inform the DLUHC's work on the development of STAIRs.
Subject to the outcome of this consultation, the DLUHC will formally issue the Direction to the Regulator. The Direction will then be binding on the Regulator, who will introduce requirements for RPs to comply with the requirements set out in the STAIRs policy statement.
