Devonshires’ award-winning Litigation & Dispute Resolution Team is working with Action for Accountability Limited (“A4A”) to launch its #TheyKnew campaign.
The newly formed not-for-profit organisation is seeking to raise funds to launch investigations into the actions of those who failed to act in the face of widespread child sexual abuse and exploitation (CSAE). A4A was founded by police whistleblower Maggie Oliver, who invited survivor Samantha Smith and former-CEO of The Maggie Oliver Foundation Jennie Lucas to join her as fellow directors. Rotherham survivor, Elizabeth Harper, will act as an advisor to the organisation.
#TheyKnew, which is to be funded through crowdfunding, will look at the actions of the police, local authorities and other public bodies, as well as individuals, to determine whether private prosecutions, civil claims or other legal actions should be brought. A4A will work in consultation with survivors of child sexual abuse and exploitation from across the UK.
